VThis isn’t a commentary on the Presidential election. I’m sure we’ve all had enough of those. This is more a commentary on how people, particularly leaders, need to act responsibly. Last week a Detroit Pastor made a statement which was so irresponsible, so inflammatory, I thought he should be arrested.
The Detroit Police department, the Michigan State Police and Detroit’s mayor organized a gathering with the citizens of Detroit to discuss racial tensions. A good idea. Pastor “Smith” the religious leader of a Detroit congregation attended the gathering, Smith is an “African American”. He’s black. Smith declared his solution to racial violence was simple. “For every black man who is killed by a white policeman, we should kill two white policemen.” No shit! He said that! How irresponsible is that? A man of God advocating murderer? If enough people listen to this kind of preaching, we’re going to have a blood bath, especially in a city which was 83% black in the 2010 census; a city in which most the police officers are white. I have a solution which is not only more simple, but less violent. I know it works, because I’ve used it to stay out of trouble.
I’ve written before how my father was working for ford Motor Company when we were transferred to Mexico City, Mexico in 1971. I’ve heard many a tourist proclaim that Mexico is a wonderful place to visit, but for the most part, a brief visit doesn’t compare to living and attending school there for six years. Mexicans might like you to come to their country to spend your money. They’ll be nice to you so you come back and spend more of your money. I learned as early as our trip from the airport upon arriving in Mexico that Mexicans don’t like foreigners, particularly rich ones, in their country. My father had a company car pick up the family from the airport. By the time we arrived at his office, the car had been spit on, and hit by eggs. That was just my first lesson that Mexicans don’t like blond-haired, blue-eyed Americans in their country any more than we want Mexicans in ours.
Haven’t you ever wondered why Mexican are willing to risk their lives to get away from Mexico into this country? Mexico is a horrible place to live compared to the good ole U.S. of A., and Mexicans only have themselves to blame for that. Mexico is a democracy just like our government. They can vote in their own leaders to manage their affairs, but their leaders are horribly corrupt, and they’ve raped their own country.
So do I have a point to the rant against Mexico? Yes. By the time I was a teen and driving, I was proficient in the methods of the Mexican police, Money. The fact that we never went through Mexican customs at the airport and Ford bribed a Mexican official to get my driver’s license, should describe the atmosphere.
I also learned that I had a problem not so dissimilar to the one of black teens driving today. Whenever a Mexican cop spotted my blond hair driving down the highway, he pulled med over. The main difference for me from that suffered by a black teen today is that I only had a cop pull his gun on med twice, and never with the intention of shooting, unless I did something stupid. My greatest fear was always that the police would lock me up, where an American would disappear after a six-fingered rectal exam.
It didn’t take long to learn how to avoid these situations. I always carried a few hundred pesos in my wallet for a bribe. I always act responsibly and obeyed the law. For the most part that strategy worked for me. I survived to move back to the States, and you can bet that I kissed American soil on my return.
So my point is. We don’t need to kill two whites for every black. People need to act responsibly. When I knew I was being targeted by Mexican cops, I just stayed out of their way, and didn’t do anything stupid. Black teens should know that they’re being profiled. It isn’t right, but play it smart. Act responsibly. Hopefully, responsible leaders will help society through
